I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels an almost permanent sense of inferiority because of my anxiety; if I were to guess, I’d say that’s common across the board for the mentally ill. That sense of inferiority often makes me feel like a hypocrite. I've never really thought that feeling numb was a problem for me. I've always had issues with feeling too much. Even when I'm depressed, I don't usually relate to the emptiness that many others describe. Even my depression is full of emotions, from self-loathing to existential dread. But over the last few years, I have learned to cope with my depression better and better, so when those depressive emotions resurface, I panic and try to shove them away. Which is why, after years of depression and anxiety, I am just now starting to experience numbness.

Hi Paige,

Technically, Lamictal (lamotrigine) is FDA approved for the maintenance phase of bipolar disorder. That said, some people do find it useful in treating bipolar depression as well -- that seems to be quite individual.

Keep in mind that just because something isn't FDA approved for your specific use, doesn't mean it doesn't work for you for that use. We're all unique.

(Also, drug manufacturers have to apply for FDA approval for a specific use. The overall process for this is very expensive. They may not always do that if it won't make them enough money.)

Ii have suffered from mental illness since I was 4. I just turned 60. BPD is a possible new diagnosis for me. I have shed a lot of tears of pain over a life spent trying to feel the love yet the empathy and overall radar on other's feelings is always there. I needed to hear something good. All I think is it's really all my fault now . Fighting suicide because the implications of all of this are overwhelming. Thank you for the encouragement.

My husband has ptsd but is in denial covid lockdown the trauma of losing his dad, several health issues now he had a heart attack, he has gone worse, I suggested some therapy but he refuses to get help, always says, "I'll figure it out "and never does,
This behavior all the points above are his symptoms.
