Challenging Yourself Can Help Boost Self-Esteem

August 5, 2022 Will Redmond

Over the past several months, I've been writing about ways to boost self-esteem at a comfortable pace. I find that working at your own speed and setting achievable goals will help set anyone up for self-esteem success. Today, I'd like to talk about something different I tried recently. I want to talk about how challenging myself affected my self-esteem.

How I Challenged Myself and How It's Helping My Self-Esteem

I've embarked on a new journey this past week -- cold showers. I know this sounds extremely uncomfortable, but that's the whole point. I stumbled across the concept one day when I was browsing social media. I kept thinking about it, so I decided to learn more.

It turns out that cold showers can have several benefits, both physical and mental. The thought of actually taking a cold shower was a nightmare -- especially first thing in the morning. It was rough. The initial shock had me breathing very quickly and making some funny noises. I showered as fast as possible and started drying off. Then it hit me -- I felt amazing.

Reflecting on the cold shower later in the day, I realized how energized and strong I felt for doing it. I went in scared but came out having conquered my fear. It set the tone for my entire day.

That day, I was more productive at work, more lively in conversation, and more focused on whatever task was at hand. I'm not saying that the cold shower is the reason behind all that, But I feel it helped. That might not be what helps you, but whatever challenge does help you might be worth a shot.

Finding a Challenge to Boost Self-Esteem

Self-esteem is a constantly evolving pursuit. There is no one correct answer for every person. On the road to better self-esteem, many things have helped in the past that no longer do and vice versa. Presenting myself with new challenges has been a great way to boost my self-esteem because it makes me feel strong. I know that when I conquer internal challenges, I can conquer external ones too. If I fall short on one of my challenges, I always remind myself that it's okay to fail sometimes. That doesn't mean I did anything wrong. It's just part of the process. I don't always have to be perfect.

I encourage you to try little challenges for yourself. There's nothing too small. Let me know if it helps boost your self-esteem by leaving a comment below.
