An Eating Disorder Bucket List to Mark a Decade of Healing

July 19, 2021 Mary-Elizabeth Schurrer

In just a couple of days, I will turn 30. To those who have spent more time on this earth than I have, this might not seem like such an extraordinary milestone, but 10 years ago, I never imagined that I would be alive to see my 20th birthday—let alone my 30th. That version of me felt hopelessly convicted to a life sentence of anorexia.

I used to assume that once this eating disorder had taken everything from me, there would be no breath in my lungs or heartbeat in my chest. I couldn't envision a path that led anywhere else. But I am immensely thankful to be here as living proof that my former self was wrong. Not only am I still standing, but I continue to learn new depths of my own strength, determination, resilience, and bravery. I'm proud that I chose to fight instead of quit.

So as I look into the horizon of this new chapter, I want to share my eating disorder bucket list to mark a decade of healing. And for anyone who might find themselves in the same hopeless trench I was stuck in 10 years ago, I also want to offer encouragement that recovery makes it possible to conquer obstacles, manifest dreams, savor experiences, mend relationships, and embrace a new identity that once felt impossible. Maybe this bucket list can help serve as a gentle reminder to stay the course.

My Eating Disorder Bucket List from the Last 10 Years

Have you created an eating disorder recovery bucket list of our own to cross off? If not, I highly recommend it as a motivational and empowering reminder of how much progress you continue to make. What milestones, reflections, or achievements are you most proud of in the healing journey? Please share your insights in the comment section below.

I love this! Making a bucket list will help me to realize how far I've come in recovery. Thank you for the inspiration:-)
