Prescriptions While In-Between

My husband is "in between" jobs and I only work as needed so I do not get the luxury of carrying insurance, so what do we do about our prescriptions? The doctor's office has no insight. I make too much money to get any assistance at all, so what about us "in-betweeners?" What do we get to do about our medication when we passionately want to stay well, but cannot possibly when there is not way for us to get our prescriptions filled without paying literally thousands of dollars? These things also cause more friction in our marriages and more anxiety issues to deal with. So it's more than what it appears to be on the surface. We can't stay well without going broke when we're one step away from being broke as it is.
