How should you take Avandaryl?

Special warnings about Avandaryl

Inform your doctor if you get sick, injured, or have surgery while on Avandaryl. This drug may not properly control your blood sugar levels during these times.

Talk to your doctor about all of your medical conditions, especially if you have heart, liver or kidney problems, or are menopausal. Also, keep your doctor informed of all prescription, over-the-counter and herbal medicines you are taking.

Possible food and drug interactions when taking Avandaryl

If Avandaryl is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Avandaryl with the following:

Corticosteroids
Diuretics
Estrogens
Isoniazid
Miconazole (oral)
Nicotinic acid sympathomimetics
Oral contraceptives
Other oral hypoglycemic agents
Phenothiazines
Phenytoin
Thyroid products

Special information if you are pregnant or breastfeeding

Avandaryl should not be used during pregnancy; it is recommended to have a stable blood sugar level during pregnancy, therefore, talk with your doctor about beginning insulin therapy if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

Recommended dosage for Avandaryl

ADULTS

The usual starting dose of Avandaryl is 4 milligrams (mg)/1 mg or 4 mg/2 mg once daily.

Overdosage

Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.
