The Detriments of Forming Hyper-Fixations

Hyper-fixations are periods of high immersion into something you really like. These periods aren't very long for me, but what I've noticed is my focus and creativity sky-rocket during this time. This can make forming hyper-fixations feel good, which can encourage me to form more, but this is actually harmful to daily life. 

My Hyper-Fixations

For me, having a hyper-fixation looks like obsessively consuming television shows, fan art, fan fiction, and behind-the-scenes commentary. The two reasons that I've had issues with forming hyper-fixations in the past are:

For a long time, it seemed like forming hyper-fixations could be good for me and could help me moderate the effects that mental illnesses have on me, but the more I relied on them, the more I realized this wasn't true.
