What’s your idea of joy? What awakens feelings of calm, peace, and contentment in you?

Joy is a sense of well-being. It springs from spiritual connectedness that creates an inner calm, peace and contentment. It warms your heart and soul. Getting up to greet the sunrise, driving the scenic route to the office or hearing my sister’s lovely voice when she sings Louis Armstrong’s, What a Wonderful World. The feeling of joy is not ephemeral. It is long-lasting. So much so that when I think of these examples along with others, immense contentment gushes within. What evokes joy for you?

What Evokes Joy?

Joy is a sense of well-being. It springs from spiritual connectedness that creates an inner calm, peace and contentment. Learn how to achieve joy in your life.Be aware of what evokes joy for you. Everyone will have a unique sense of what that is. You have to adopt a joy outlook. Recognizing those moments in which you feel immense calm, peace and contentment is important. Why? Because then you are more apt to pay more attention to it and chose those experiences more often. The amazing thing about joy is you can experience it even in the midst of trials and tribulations. Can you think of time when you were experiencing a period of uncertainty, sadness or difficulty and a sense of calm and peace came over you or perhaps someone made you laugh? Joy springs from within but can be evoked by outward sources.

Steps For Achieving Joy

Joy is achievable. However, not everyone is going to experience joy in the same way. Bottom line is joy is germinated from within. It is not out there somewhere. No one is going to deliver it in a package. It’s your choice. Achieving joy is dependent on fostering spiritual connectedness, which in turn yields calm, peace and contentment.

Each day:

  • Nurture your spiritual connectedness.
  • Think positive thoughts.
  • Make a list of what evokes joy.
  • Do more of what fills you with joy.
  • Engage in leisure activities.
  • Laugh…a lot.
  • Share your joy with others.
  • Do more of this.

Declare Your Joy

If you have experienced such a state of joy, you get this. But, if you haven’t, it is time to be intentional about growing your spiritual connectedness. Imagine experiencing joy every day. Experiencing joy lies in you.

Declare your joy. Visualize what it feels like. Be intentional and run to it!

  1. I don’t know what joy feels like because I have never felt it. I am constantly thinking about why I am so unhappy in my life & why I am treated so badly in society. When I attempt to feel joy & share it with others, they tend to use me & take my joy. I am going to spend 2014 looking for joy & peace before I die.
