Getting Into Binge Eating Recovery

For the past six years, I have been in recovery from binge eating disorder (BED). This recovery hasn’t always been pretty. In fact, it’s been chaotic and messy and full of lessons learned the hard way, but with small steps and a lot of perseverance, I’ve been able to make significant improvements to my relationship with food and the control it used to hold over my entire life.

I am so glad to see this blog because I am at a point in my life where I absolutely must address my binge eating and I really don't know where to turn. I've done extensive reading and even attended a Binge Eating Disorder Association (BEDA) conference once. I've had bariatric surgery and lost a considerable amount of weight (again...life of yo-yo-dieting), and am now gaining it back, primarily because of my nighttime binging. I need some practical, down-to-earth guidance as to how to even get started in the recovery process. To be honest, it scares me to think about having to give up something that helps me get through my days and nights.. Can you offer me any suggestions, etc. from your experience? I have been struggling with eating/food "issues" pretty much all my life (I'm 55 years old) and feel extremely hopeless (I am also dealing with depression, chronic pain, and several other physical "ailments". Thanks!
