HealthyPlace.com
Getting
Started
Welcome to HealthyPlace.com's site building center.
From your application, we are assuming that you already have a good
understanding of how to build a website and that you are using your own html
editor. If you need help with any aspect of site development and marketing your
website, please feel free to contact
us. We want to help you make your site the best it can be.
PLEASE READ EVERYTHING BELOW THIS.
Files & Passwords
Files: When your application was approved, we sent you an html file. That
file contained the template you will use for your website.
Passwords: We will send you an ftp username and password. We will also set
up a HealthyPlace.com email account and assign a username and password.
You can access your email at HealthyPlace.com directly from the web:
http://mail.healthyplace.com
or by using your own email client. Here are the settings:
- POP Account: yourname@healthyplace.com
- Default Domain: mail.healthyplace.com
- Return Address: yourname@healthyplace.com
- SMTP: mail.healthyplace.com
File Transfer
We use ftp to transfer files and images. If you need an ftp client, you can
download this one for free.
Once your ftp client is open, click the "general" tab on top and
the "new" button on the right. Here's what you need to fill in.
- Profile Name=HealthyPlace.
- Host Name/Address=ftp.healthyplace.com
- Host Type=select "automatic detect"
- User ID & Password we will email you.
- Account & Comment- leave blank
- Click "save password" box
After everything is filled in, click the "okay" button at the
bottom.
In ftp, the files on the left side are the one's on your computer hard
drive. The one's on the right, are the files already on the HealthyPlace.com
website.
The "arrow" buttons in the middle indicate which way you want to
transfer the file(s) that you have highlighted.
If you open your ftp client while working, make sure you hit the
"refresh" button on the left side to update the ftp client before
transferring your files.
For security reasons, if your ftp client is open and unused for more than 10
minutes, the link will automatically close down. You will then have to close
down and reopen the program and connect again.
Each site at HealthyPlace.com has it's own folder. You will get the name of
the folder via email. You will put all htm, html files inside that folder. Also
inside that folder is another folder labelled "images" for you to put
all your "images" in. You must do it this way so that all the
template links work.
HealthyPlace.com is designed so that visitors can easily navigate throughout
each specific community and the HealthyPlace.com website. There are common
elements on each page of the community that must remain and are already
included in your page template. These cannot be removed or tampered with:
- page background image
- community banner (top of page)
- community navigation button (top-left on page)
- in the "links column" at the bottom of your links, "send
this page to a friend" and "back to ___ community homepage.
- all HealthyPlace.com sponsor buttons, banners, and links.
- the coding at the bottom of the page, inside the "msinclude" tag
for the HealthyPlace.com navigation links.
Your site links should go along the left side of the page in the column
underneath the community navigation button. They must be in "H5"
heading, with "arial" typeface. Each site within a community has been
assigned a link color code which is already included in your template.
Your content begins underneath the community banner.
Any links off the site, must be "target=new," so that a new
browser window opens when you click on the link.
Remember, in accordance with your HealthyPlace.com partner agreement and the
HealthyPlace.com Terms of Use, displaying any kind of commercial sponsorship or
ad banner, including those that are generated by banner or link exchange
services, that is not sponsored by HealthyPlace.com is prohibited.
We have two servers, one for development, the other is the main server.
When you ftp your pages over to HealthyPlace.com, they are going onto the
development server. To view your pages as you are working on them, go to:
http://dev.healthyplace.com/communities/the rest of your link
When you are ready to update your site to the main server, send an email to:
dev@healthyplace.com. In the subject header, put the words "site
update". In the body of your email, put the link to your homepage. From
there, we will update your pages to the main server.
Site Building Suggestions
- Make your pages easy to read.
- Make your pages a reasonable length (not overly long).
- Keep the number of images on each page to a minimum and make sure each
image is no larger than 10 mb. This ensures that your pages will be
fast-loading.
- Make sure you use the "title" tag and
meta-tags at the top of each page.
- Make sure you submit each page if allowed, or your index page (first page
of your site) to the major search engines.
Buttons-Banners
If you have a site or personal homepage outside of HealthyPlace.com, we have
some banners and
buttons you can use to promote your HealthyPlace.com site.
Please remember, if you need assistance with anything, all of us on the
partner team are ready to help in anyway we can. Just email us at:
