QUESTION:

Dear Dr. Heller,

My discharge summary stated that I have mixed personality disorder. What exactly does that mean?

Thank you very much.

DR. HELLER'S ANSWER:

Mixed personality disorder means symptoms of more than one personality disorder are present, but not enough criteria to fit any specific personality disorder. It's not an official diagnosis.

It may mean the person making the diagnoses didn't want to "label" you with a specific diagnosis.
