QUESTION:

Dear Dr. Heller,

About 3 months ago a doctor told me I had Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). I have looked around for what this means, on the 'Net, in books and they each say something different. What does it really mean? Is it anything to worry about?

Thank you.

DR. HELLER'S ANSWER:

It's very serious. It can cause suicide, legal problems, divorce, child abuse, health problems, and financial problems.

I believe the BPD is due to damage in the brain's "trapped, cornered animal" response within the limbic system. The BPD section of my website has an enormous amount of material on the BPD.
