What Can Stop My Rage?
QUESTION:
Dear Dr. Heller,
I have some questions about my rage. You see, sometimes I just get so angry that I want to hurt people. It's almost as though I have no control over it. Rage just sweeps over me and I can't predict or stop it. I've tried in vain to prevent these "episodes" as I call them, through a variety of home remedies: sniffing cement glue, sniffing gold paint, silver paint and many different colors of paint, but nothing seems to work. If you could tell me exactly what to sniff to stop this problem I would be oh so grateful.
DR. HELLER'S ANSWER:
You are describing anger out of control. The most likely explanation is the BPD (borderline personality disorder), where seizure-like activity causes rage. The entire BPD section will be of help to you. There are many FAQ answers in the ask the doctor section.
Prozac combined with Tegretol with as-needed Haldol works for most of my BPD patients.
Other diagnoses include the behavioral dyscontrol syndrome and bipolar.
You are dissolving your brain with your sniffing. It will eventually result in worsening of your rage and your ability to think and take care of yourself.
