Temporal Lobe Abnormalities (No-BPD)
QUESTION:
I have previously been diagnosed with temporal lobe abnormalities. Although no seizures I have had plenty of weird feelings all my life. After reading most of "Ask the Doctor" I'm almost sure that I have BPD. Is there a connection and where do I start? My Dr. is rather ambivalent.
DR. HELLER'S ANSWER:
First of all, make sure you forgive yourself for everything since it wasn't your fault.
Secondly dysphoria and dissociate symptoms do appear to be from seizure like activity, deep in the brain that can spread to the temporal lobes. We only have the technology to measure the very top surface of the brain.
I'd highly recommend you print from the "articles" section my article for primary care physicians and the subsequent update. The primary care article is referenced for your physician to use.
I'd also highly recommend you take the screening test I use for my patients. A key for successfully treating the BPD is to treat every diagnosis a person has.
You have to be your own advocate. You are not a defective human being, but an important fellow human being with a limbic system malfunction who needs and deserves treatment.
