Stormy Childhood, High IQ, Could He Be BPD?

QUESTION:

I am from Hungary, 52 years old. I have a son, 29 years old, very stormy childhood, high IQ, living 3 years with the family in Tripoli Libya, then back to Hungary, than a new assignment in Tokyo for 6 years, in international (mainly American environment, fights, and sometimes drinking, small tries of soft drugs I assume, you know the rude teenagers world. He was always an outsider, trying to fit into the changing social environments.

Than coming back to Hungary in 1991, when he was 21 he had a seizure, and found first as a psychotic episode. Never taken the drug (haloperidal first, but after severe pain leponex) continuously, very aggressive for the next 23-3 years, we brought back him to the hospital 2 years ago

He was treated in the last 2 years with Zyprexa and Tegretol, he somehow stabilized. (He never approached his intelligent and smart personality, what He was when he was 17, but at least he was not aggressive.

Now, unmotivated, eccentric thinking, sometimes talking a sentence for 10 minutes as a turntable whose needle stuck to a certain sound grave. Does not want to separate from us, not interested in any profession, only in dictators, millionaires, for the time being the lakes all over the world.

He is about to stop taking Tegretol now, Zyprexa was stopped a few month ago, he is against taking any medicine, and started to be aggressive again.

We are tired, and gave up. Do you think he is borderline?

Electro-convulsive therapy? How to make it, or continue the drug taking, when even the best time he was not himself what he used to be?

Sorry for my poor English, I had to type it quick, as it is a rare occasion, when he is not sitting on our shoulder.

DR. HELLER'S ANSWER:

This doesn't sound like the BPD, although BPD with chronic dysphoria is a possibility. Schizophrenia is a possibility. Clozaril is a miracle medication for those with schizophrenia.
