QUESTION:

From what I've read in books and scientific journals, I suppose that if a person repetitively cuts their wrists superficially, as a form of dealing with stressful life events, then such a person would be classified as possibly suffering from BPD. But what if a person cuts their wrists repetitively for no apparent reason. What would such a person be classified as?

DR. HELLER'S ANSWER:

The same. It relieves chronic dysphoria as well. It can also be an obsession trait - as in the OCD.

The only thing it "classifies" you as is in need of help.

The diagnoses are another thing, and like everyone else you need all your diagnoses made and effectively treated.
