QUESTION:
My 26 year old son has turned to smoking pot, 13 years now. I've been in Al- Anon for about three years and try not to enable him but I'm sure that I do . My son is a very sensitive person. I've read Melody Beatty books on codependency and they help me quite a bit. But my son is in denial or has given up and thinks he's alone to struggle with this. It's very sad for me and I am alone with this, family is lacking in compassion and his brother lives in N.Y. and his friends are questionable and his father died of AIDS in '89 when everything was hush-hush and no one reached out a hand. What a lot of loneliness for my little family of three.
DR. HELLER'S ANSWER:
Diagnosis! For both of you!
Finding out what's wrong won't give you the answers, but you won't get any answers until you find out what's wrong.
