I Was Just Diagnosed With BPD - What Is It?

Bookmark and Share

QUESTION:

Please help. I have just been labeled BPD, and I am not handling it at all. In fact I am screaming. I don't understand.

DR. HELLER'S ANSWER:

The BPD is a malfunction of the trapped, cornered, wounded animal part of your brain. It causes unprovoked mood swings, chronic anger, emptiness, boredom and emotional pain on a regular basis. Under stress an epileptic fit called dysphoria (anxiety, rage, depression and despair) develops, steadily worsening. If it spreads to the temporal lobes symptoms like deja vu, unreality, and looking through someone else's eyes can develop.

It's medically treatable. All the mental health diagnoses must be made and treated, as needed dysphoria medication must be available, and retraining the brain is necessary. There's a great deal of information on it in the BPD and Ask The Doctor sections.
