QUESTION:

Dear Leland M Heller, M.D.;

Thank you for your information. Your book looks interesting and one I will soon purchase. I was wondering about multi-diagnosis with BPD. Do you have any information on BPD and Tourettes?

How would a Specialist test for Tourettes in a person who also has intellectual deficits?

DR. HELLER'S ANSWER:

There appears to be a relationship between BPD and other psychiatric diagnoses. Tourettes is a completely different diagnosis from the BPD. Tourettes has tics - both motor and verbal. The BPD is related to mood swings, chronic anger, emptiness, and over-reacting to stress with dysphoria (anxiety, rage, depression and despair) and other psychotic symptoms.
