QUESTION:

Hi Dr. Heller,

Can BPD's respond well to DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and do you recommend it? If yes, why? If no, why not?

Sincerely,

(BPD...presently in crisis, searching for treatment)

DR. HELLER'S ANSWER:

DBT is an extremely intensive therapy with lots of therapists working in a team approach. Its major success is to reduce self-harm episodes and suicide attempts. Some people respond well to DBT. Medications make a far better impact, and when combined with DBT can make an awesome combination.
