QUESTION:

My friend of 14 yrs. has committed thefts and other extreme acts, but is not aware - cannot remember his actions at all. He is also manic to some degree, depressed, and has extreme mood fluctuations. He had been taking Zoloft 100 mg for more than one year. He has become confused, angry and kind of out of touch with reality.

What can you surmise from this information?

DR. HELLER'S ANSWER:

He needs a thorough evaluation. There are many, many possibilities including seizure disorders. The BPD with severe dysphoria spells is definitely a possibility. He needs to be evaluated and treated ASAP! He and his parents also needs information on everything that's wrong with him! You must find out first what's wrong in order to fix it!
