QUESTION:

My husband has been on ZOLOFT for a while. It seems ever since he has gotten on it he has been moody a lot. There is a lot of stress in his life. He is sick from work, no money coming in, people not leaving us alone, 5 kids to raise. Well, anyway about 2 weeks ago he snapped..and did things that I have never seen him do. But he took a extra dose of Zoloft that day. He is on 150 but he could not remember if he took it and took another dose of 150. I need to know if the Zoloft can make a person NOT like them self because something was not right that night. We had a good day and things seemed good. Please if u can help. Thanks.

DR. HELLER'S ANSWER:

In and of itself it's highly unlikely Zoloft would do that. If he has the cognitive GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) combined with the BPD (borderline personality disorder) it could make him worse like all the SSRI's. BuSpar can prevent this problem.

Anyone can "snap" under enough stress, so it's possible the problem has nothing to do with the medication.
