Can Remeron Help with Sleep?
Question:
Dear Doctor,
I was taking Ambien for a year and did not like its working then not working. I currently take Zoloft for depression. My doctor recommended Remeron for sleep. I have been taken it 2 months now. Best sleep ever bar none. I wonder is it safe and does the weight gain level off after a while?
DR. HELLER'S ANSWER:
Remeron (mirtazapine) is a particularly helpful sleep medication for those with PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). It's extremely safe and non addicting.
Some individuals do gain weight from it, rarely more than 7-10 pounds. Eating vegetables instead of high calorie foods when you get the munchies can help a great deal. There's a new medication for weight that should come out next year that will likely be an excellent addition to Remeron (mirtazapine).
