QUESTION:
My physician (OB/GYN) has recently prescribed Lupron injections for the next 6 months to deal with anemia in a mild to serious nature. He feels that this medication will do the job of helping to build up my blood reserves and hemoglobin count, which the last time it was tested was 11.5. The problem I am finding is that it is also causing very serious mood swings. Almost like an express elevator. Although I have been able to deal with these for the last month, this was just my first injection. What happens when we are two and three into this treatment? I am currently on Klonopin, Inderal, Zestoretic, Paxil, Priolsec. Since I have been on the Lupron, I've had an incredible itching problem, also.....so am taking over the counter Benadryl as recommended by the Doc.
If you have any information concerning Lupron and BPD or other drugs in this area, please respond.
DR. HELLER'S ANSWER:
Being a hormone, Lupron can indeed have massive effects on mood. This is a problem for many women, with or without the BPD. There are no easy treatments.
