QUESTION:
I have been diagnosed with borderline personality. Looking through all of this information has shed a lot of light on my past. There are still some questions that are unanswered. Are most borderlines have high sex drives? I have found that with men I am so sexual that we fight about it, I am now with a woman and I am not that sexual. I don’t understand why. I live my life on the edge at all times and if my life is calm I search for trouble with being promiscuous. Know if I get caught what lies ahead. Is this behavior normal. I will search for a man like he is a animal and I am a hunter. Please let me know if I am alone with this extreme. My urges come from nowhere and I hardly see them coming. Please advise. I am so tired of always feeling so sad for no reason at anytime, no matter where I am or what I am doing. I have opened my own business, due to not being able to hold down a job. I don’t get along with a lot of people. Trouble seems to find me or do I find it? I am having such a hard time concentrating on my job due to other things in my life going on. Is there a support group out there or a chat room for borderlines?
DR. HELLER'S ANSWER:
There is a chat room for the BPD through this website.
Your experiences are not uncommon. Most borderlines have sexual problems . You pursue your activities for one major reason - when you do them you get temporary relief from the pain of dysphoria (anxiety, rage, depression and despair).
I strongly encourage you to get all your diagnoses made and comprehensively treated. This website has an enormous amount of information for you. In the website for my new book "Biological Unhappiness" there is a "screening test" that will likely be of help to you.
