BPD and Medication Manerix

QUESTION:

It definitely makes a difference to hear a "you're not alone" message. These symptoms are so horrific sometimes and I often suffer in silence. I have already started taking Manerix (I've taken Prozac in the past). I feel better about my decision to take this antidepressant now that I've read the information you provided about drug therapy.

If you have time to comment on this drug I would truly appreciate it. I haven't found a doctor really informed about BPD.

DR. HELLER'S ANSWER:

Manerix is an "MAO inhibitor." They can be helpful medications, particularly regarding depression and rejection sensitivity.

I no longer prescribe this class of medications due to the severe drug and food interactions. This is particularly true for individuals with the BPD, who impulsively during dysphoria may drink red wine and eat aged cheese and wind up having a stroke - or worse.
