QUESTION:

Thank you for all this info, and for all your efforts towards helping people like me! I have been diagnosed with many disorders, but feel that bpd is the most accurate. I started on Paxil (only 5mg--the pills are cut in half) over two months ago, and am doing and feeling much, much better. my question: my therapist told me I must be experiencing a placebo effect. have you ever seen 5mg be effective for anyone else??? do you think it could be??? (I also take Ativan (prn) at .5mg, and find that low dose effective as well)

DR. HELLER'S ANSWER:

Some people are indeed responsive to very low doses, but it is unusual. High doses are the norm. While with rare exception using the lowest dose possible is the norm, sometimes using a dose that does the job - even if it seems high - is the wise precaution.
