BPD and Humming

QUESTION:

Dear Dr. I am a 47 yr. female diagnosis with major depression, my third episode. In the past I've been diagnosed as BPD. After reading the material from this web site I have no doubt that I am a borderline personality. Of course, every psychiatrist seems to make a different diagnosis.

I am humming all the time. Not a song but a rhythmic humming constantly. I've caught myself humming while eating and I hear it in my mind like before I go to bed. I seem unable to stop this humming. Could this be anxiety? If so would medication help? I am now on Wellbutrin, Effexor and Remeron for depression.

DR. HELLER'S ANSWER:

It could easily be obsessing, which is usually an anxiety phenomenon. Your regimen is an interesting one, although I much prefer Prozac with tegretol if needed.
