BPD and Fear of Pain
QUESTION:
I am a BPD person. I have just recently found your website, and will try to get into the chat room. I also ordered Dr. Heller's book. I notice now that when I have pain, I have intense fear of the pain. The fear is much greater than the pain. And I perceive the pain as life threatening, and it brings on thoughts of suicide. What can I do to handle or lessen this fear?
DR. HELLER'S ANSWER:
Simple answer - you need the right medications! Dysphoria is unbearable for anyone. If you're also describing panic disorder that needs to be treated right away.
I'm saddened that no research has been done on the addition of Tegretol to Prozac in these situations because the results are amazing. As needed Haldol works very well in bad situations also.
