BPD and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
QUESTION:
I was given a diagnosis of BPD five years ago and my current therapist is treating me with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I'm not sure it's helping. I am high functioning, finishing a master's this year and starting a doctoral program next year. Does EMDR help BPD?
DR. HELLER'S ANSWER:
You asked a few questions...
- EMDR may help some individuals in some ways, but it's not an effective treatment for limbic system seizures.
- Accept the progress you've made as good, but don't accept it as all you can be. You're obviously bright, so you can take advantage of available information.
