Just Being Around Money Affects BehaviorA new study shows that just the mere presence of money changes people. Psychiatrists Less Frustrated Than Other SpecialistsPsychiatrists are more satisfied with their careers than are other medical specialists, a newly published survey suggests. Among 647 psychiatrists who answered a national LocumTenens.com survey, more than three-fourths (77%) said they would enter medicine if they could choose again. By comparison, 56% of obstetricians/gynecologists, 57% of orthopedic surgeons, 67% of anesthesiologists, 69% of general surgeons, and 70% of pediatricians, internists and radiologists said they would choose a medical career. Only 9% of psychiatrists said they are not frustrated about practicing in today's health care marketplace. However, fewer anesthesiologists (6%) and surgeons (4%) said they are not frustrated.
Job-related frustrations most commonly cited by psychiatrists include: Interestingly, the survey estimates the average psychiatrist’s salary at $178,000, compared with $250,200 for general surgeons and $309,950 for anesthesiologists. I have had many bouts of depression over my later teens and throughout my adult life but until recently had just put it down to the strains of life.
