I would like to offer evidence to disprove Dr. Paul McQue's opinion that MPD or DID does not exist. My daughter, now 16 and adopted at the age of 4, suffered unknown sever abuse and trauma beyond imagination prior to adoption.

She public schooled until the grade level of 7 and then came home to continue her education as a homeschooler. She was never subjected to movies such as "Sybil" or neither was I for that matter.

My daughter, after a series of unsafe episodes, was hospitalized in a psychiatric ward, for a period of 9 months, with a staff who had never worked with DID. Most were unknowledgable to understand the complexity, or believe for that matter, her displays of dissociation. Unfortunately, this lack of education by hospital staff only added to my daughter's idenities through more trauma of using physical restraint to keep her "safe".

Finally, after a year of inpatient, the verbal idenitites shave ubmerged and the non-verbal identities can be dealt with. My daughter is being taught to get to know her "System" and is a different young woman now that she feels she is understood by her professional treatment providers, parents and most of all herself.

It is my prayer that no other child or person ever be subjected to the continued abuse of mental health professionals who do not understand or support DID and it's existance.
