Gaining sensitivity about nothing?

Gaining sensitivity about nothing?

Growing up as the youngest of 8 kids, I definitely went through a lot of teasing. As the years went by I became very clever and could fight back with my own teasing. But looking back to the beginning of my eating disorder, before I even realized what it was(about 6 months). I haven't been able to take a joke like I could before, I'm seemingly getting more and more sensitive. Even jokes that have nothing to do with anything to provoke my ED I take them like a personal attack. It's making me want to not be around anyone anymore. I know with all of my (logical)being that they ARE joking, they mean no harm, but I just want to scream at them and then cry over it.
Like last night, for example, my dad made a joke about my earphones, something about being a hearing aid cause as soon as i'd put them in he'd start talking so I'd have to say "what?" and I honestly just wanted to lock myself in my room and cry about it. I have NEVER been a sensitive person, I've always been the strong one in my family.

Has anyone else seemed to notice this as a problem connected to your ED?

Re: Gaining sensitivity about nothing?

Yes!!!
Hi, I'm Angela Gambrel, the author of HealthyPlace's eating disorders blog, Surviving ED. I mean, I was always sensitive to some degree, but I became more sensitive when I developed anorexia. Now that I am in recovery, I have my sense of humor back and I can take some teasing.

It will get better. Hang in there!

That is so weird, I have become more sensitive about everything since recognizing my anorexia. Nice to know I was not alone.

Re: Gaining sensitivity about nothing?

I am at my 'goal' weight (my therapists goal) and feeling huge and gross and even my husband has commented about how sensitive I have become. Poor guy...
