GAD and Panic Disorder - at my worst

GAD and Panic Disorder - at my worst

I think it's ok to post here?
I have bipolar, but I was also diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder.
I'm not in a good place right now, not by far.
I'm going through a lot with my bipolar, but I won't get into that on here, as the forum is anxiety, however, due to that, my anxiety seems to be out of control. I'm just not sure how to manage it. My clonazapam isn't working and the bipolar is making it worse.
Does anyone have some advice/suggestions? I've never done meditation, so I wouldn't even know where to begin. I'm at the point where I'll try anything!
Thanks

Re: GAD and Panic Disorder - at my worst

hi hun, I'm so sorry to hear you're feeling like that. The simplest meditation I know and the one that everyone recommends to start with is the breathing. The only thing you have to do is find a comfortable place and some minutes in the day to do it. Sit down and close your eyes, start counting your breathes form 1 to 10, when you get to 10 then start over. Try to focus on your breathing, if another thought comes to your mind, just let it pass, don't try to fight it, just let it pass. You will realize that sometimes you will be on number 23, no worries, just get back to 1. Hope this works hun.

I'll definately give this a try through out the day and especially before bed.

Great idea Maria! I do something similar that Heidi taught me.  Focus on my breathing - totally paying attention to breathing in and out and in and out - pushing everything else out of the mind.  Hard at times but its amazingly calming.  I like the counting - i should try that too.

I am sure if you look up meditation and focused breathing on google you will get some interesting hits. You might find some great stuff!

Other than my doctor, research is my #1 source.

Re: GAD and Panic Disorder - at my worst

I have two things I do. First I get comfy then I close my eyes and visualize the most beautiful place I've ever been. For me it is my cousin's garden. I walk through the garden and look at every petal on every flower, the leaves on the trees, and just how the sun looks as it filters through the branches. The other starts the same way. Then I say The Lord's Prayer until I go to sleep. I hardly ever get through it mire than twice. if my mind gets off track I go back to the last part I remember saying and go on. Somewhere along the way I go to sleep. I've been doing this since my late teens. I like the garden the best.

I get along with a little help from my friends.

Re: GAD and Panic Disorder - at my worst

so sorry to hear you are in a tough spot...

meditation is frustrating at first, but it can be super-helpful. practice "belly breathing" and let thoughts come in and go. you're trying to calm your nervous system, not just your head. for me, i like music. OR you could try a guided meditation on audio...

let me know how it goes:)
