If anyone knows anything about psychiatrist Hardin Ritchey (died in 2000) who practiced at Hillcrest Hospital in Birmingham Alabama from about 1962 to 1973, please post a reply. His treatment of me was inappropriate and I heard years later that he had been fired from Hillcrest in about 1973 and later privately sanctioned by the state board of medical advisors. A friend of mine remembers reading an article in the Birmingham newspaper that mentioned him by name and stated that he had been disciplined by the board. Specifically he was a shock doctor who shocked everyone who walked in the door. He shocked me against my will for almost 4 years. Three of the more than 50 treatments were forced on me before I turned 18, and three were forced on me after I had turned 21. If anyone knows anything about the date he was fired from Hillcrest or the date the article in the paper appeared about his reprimand by the board, please reply to this list. In 1977 I contacted the state board of medical examiners, who replied that he did not practice in the State of Alabama.  More recently I contacted them and they stated that he had practiced continuously through about 1985 and they denied having anything in their files that shows he was disciplined, so the newspaper article must have been a “leak” of some sort. Having been traumatized for so long from being subjected to ECT at the hands of this man, it took me many years to have the courage to try to find the article.  Please reply to this list if you have any information about this man or about this hospital at that time.
