Should I have ECT?

I receive many letters from persons contemplating ECT, and they ask "should I have it?" I am unable to advise you whether or not to have the electroconvulsive therapy treatment. Having ECT, or any elective procedure, should be your own decision - not mine, not your doctor's, but yours.

Read as much as you can, ask questions and talk to others who have had ECT. Get a second medical opinion! Spend some time before making your decision, and make it a truly informed one.

I wish you much luck and good health.

I strongly believe that everyone can recover from depression (and other mental illness), even the so-called one million "untreatables."

Sincerely,

Juli
