Web Resourceslast updated 10/2/99Articles and Other Information SourcesAlice Miller's Room, by Del Marbrook--an on-line novella about making a magical place for a battered child. The first three chapters are available for free, the rest costs $7 to download. I haven't read it myself but I like the sound of it. Athena Survivor's Anthology --writings by survivors. Beyond Betrayal: Issues of Grief and Loss for Survivors of Sexual Abuse by Deborah L. Guzinski A book list for survivors of cults and abuse by spiritual authorities. Child Abuse and Multiple Personality Disorder by Philip M. Coons, MD Contrasting Views on Multiple Personality/DID --This is an overview of the literature done by students in England. Be cautious, it has considerable discussions of the views of therapists hostile to MPD/DID. It appears to be dated 1996. David Baldwin's Trauma Info Pages--A very highly-rated information page on emotional trauma and traumatic stress, including PTSD (Post-traumatic Stress Disorder). Somewhat oriented towards professionals. Empty Memories --webzine for discussion and narration about trauma, memory, dissociation, did/mps (also in Dutch). Encouragement --resources on multiple personality from an Evangelical minister. Be cautious, while he does not believe that multiple personality is caused by d*m*ns he does believe that d*m*ns can also be a problem. Eye Movement Desensitization Therapy --This is a message board at Behavior Online contains a discussion of this therapy, which some therapists are very excited about as a way of managing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and traumatic memories. Please be cautious; this therapy should be used on people who dissociate only carefully and with special training. Gift from Within -- four Articles by Frank M. Ochberg, MD on therapy for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This organization also sells videos and provides a phone-pen pal service. The Greenbaum Speech by D.C. Hammond -- detailed information on organized SRA programming--use extreme caution. This speech has also been put on the web by people associated with the False Memory Syndrome Foundation--apparently they think it is absurd and therefore supports their point of view. The author of this speech says (3/29/98): "The 'Greenbaum talk' was not entirely accurately transcribed, and was illegally duplicated and taken out of context of an entire day workshop. I think I know who distributed it from the FMS community. Part of the talk was theoretical speculation about the origin of the alleged Dr.Greene, which I think has now been disproved. Some of the material presented was identified by numerous sources independently, but because of widespread distribution on the WEB for 5 years, can have been involved in such contamination that its clinical utility for therapists is now questionable." The Invisible Boy --a substantial book about abuse of boys and male teenagers written by a Canadian psychologist. Magic Stream Journal ...a guide to emotional wellness--this self-help site includes a significant number of articles on dissociation and multiple personality. Medication for Combat PTSD --this discusses soldiers, not abuse survivors, but it is one of the clearest most detailed discussions of the advantages and disadvantages of different medications that I have seen. MenWeb: Surviving and Living: Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse --includes a number of substantial articles and a bibliography and invites survivors to contribute their stories. Mining Company Guide to Abuse/Incest Support --good articles and links, as well as discussion boards and chat. Multiplicity, Abuse, and Healing --lots of information on DID, plus poetry, her personal story, and more. Includes a particularly useful set of links on Mental Health Self-Advocacy, a very complete list of Hospitals, and an amazing list of Articles available on the web. National Network For Child Care --a collection of articles on child abuse, particularly aimed at day care providers. The Ottawa Recovered Memory Page--a collection of information on the recovered memory debate Pat McClendon's Clinical Social Work Website--includes lots of articles as well as links. Her section on Ego State Therapy has material on one approach to understanding less severe forms of DID.
Perservering --Christian resources for abuse survivors (fundamentalist) Pandora's Box: The Secrecy of Child Sexual Abuse by Dr. Nancy Faulkner--child sexual abuse prevention information. The Politics of Forgiveness: How the Christian Church Guilt-Trips Survivors By Fred Keene The Primal Wound --an article discussing adoption that may be useful to survivors struggling with feelings of abandonment. Psychological Self-Help --a book by Clayton E. Tucker-Ladd. This is very general, but it struck me as potentially useful because it has chapters on such subjects as changing feelings and changing behavior. It is not a replacement for a therapist, but may be helpful in working on the everyday things on your own while working with the deeper issues with a therapist. Ralph Allison MD: All About Multiple Personalities --Dr. Allison has put a number of articles outlining his approach on his web site. He has a lot of nonstandard ideas, so read with caution. The Recovered Memory Project Archive --lots of professional information on recovered memories. If anyone claims to you that there are no documented cases of recovered memory send them here for proof that they are wrong. Ritual Abuse and Healing Home Page --a very thorough collection of references and information. Ritual Abuse Newsletter --newsletter is available by snail mail or e-mail and the page is a good source of other links. Sexual Abuse of Males: Prevalence, Lasting Effects, and Resources, By Jim Hopper, Ph.D. Jim Hopper also has pages on Child Abuse Statistics and Recovered Memories . The Spectrum of Dissociative Disorders:An Overview of Diagnosis and Treatment by Joan A. Turkus, M.D. Shamanic Healing for Survivors of Childhood Abuse --This site is promoting a book on Shamanic Counseling, but it has a significant amount of information on this alternative approach. Thought Field Therapy with Multiple Personality Disorder --Claims to be a new, less-traumatizing way to work with memories and negative feelings. Use caution; not mainstream. Trauma and Religious Issues --this is part of the Trauma and Chaplaincy page listed under communities, but there is so much good material here that I want to list it here also. The perspective is Christian (in fact the author is a Catholic priest), but read his Forgiveness Update and you will see that he isn't into religious easy answers. Treating Disrupted Relationships: Couples Therapy for Female Child Sexual Abuse Survivors and Their Partners, article by Jill M. Serafin. The Truth in Any Memory --a large collection of accounts written by survivors. This site is run by a publisher but includes substantial amounts of information, not just promotions for books. The Universiality of Incest , by Lloyd DeMause--a gruesome article on how incest and other forms of sexual abuse of children have been common throughout history and in many different cultures.
