GUEST ENTRY: May 31, 2000 -- 12:12 AM EST

We've made it to week 6.

If, two months ago, you told me that in two months I'd be six weeks into a training program for a marathon, and trying to raise funds for a charity, I would have told you that you're absolutely crackers.

But here we are.

One of the things that has helped get me through 22 training walks is the right mood music. On the days that I'm on the road alone (which are coming more and more frequently now, as people start to realize that I'm going to be walking A LOT in the next six months), I need something that's going to motivate me to stay out on the trail for the duration of that day's walk.

Two weeks ago I sent Astrophe a training mix tape, and made a copy for myself. I thought I'd share the playlist, and why the songs were included, with you.

Side One - Instrumentalis

Twentieth Century Fox Theme. This little blurb heralds the start of something new.. completely different from my past experience.. something exciting.

Mission: Impossible Theme. A reminder that impossible is a creation of the mind.

Star Wars: A New Hope End Theme. This project of ours -- raising money for NF research and support and training to walk a marathon -- takes a lot of hard work and courage, just like winning a battle against the Dark Side. And if we can finish successfully, we get medals, too! Our hard work will not go unappreciated.

James Bond Theme. A lot of work goes into making a top-notch walker/runner/spy that can go the distance.

Top Gun Theme. Sometimes a person in training has demons to face. Ultimately the hero conquers all.

Clubbed to Death (Kurayamino Mix). From the Matrix soundtrack. In thirty-seven weeks we will have done a LOT of training. Some days we will feel great. Some days we will feel as though we've been..

Espionage. From the Austin Powers: the Spy Who Shagged Me soundtrack. This track has a FANTASTIC horn line. Like all fantastic horn lines, Astrophe and I have the proper attitude.

Peter Gunn Theme. (I guess I do have a thing for spy themes.) Places to go, mileage to walk!

First Contact Theme. We're going places we never thought about going before..

Side Two - Lyrica

X-files Remix. ..and you know what? Sometimes it feels pretty strange!

We Meet Again. From the Jerry Maguire soundtrack. How is it possible that two people from opposite ends from the Eastern Seaboard could have so much in common? It makes for good training partners, that's for certain!

Alright Now. From the Austin Powers: TSWSM soundtrack. My personal anthem. This marathon training is helping me become the person I want to be.

Walking in Your Footsteps. We're not the first people to be walking this road. We can learn a lot from the walkers and runners who have gone before us.

Destination Unknown. Where is this road going to lead? To Disney and beyond.. to what?

Outside Looking In. Always remember where you've come from, because it's a great reminder of how far you've come.

Heavy Cloud No Rain. Walking in rain is much preferred to walking in 97° temps with 95% humidity. Please don't let the summer kill us..

Every Day Is a Winding Road. Every day we get a little bit closer to being able to complete the marathon. And, for the most part, it feels fine.
