Introduction
What is anxiety?
According to Webster's© Dictionary anxiety is:
1.
- painful or apprehensive uneasiness of mind usualy over an impending or
anticipated ill
- fearful concern or interest
- a cause of anxiety
2.
an abnormal and overwhelming sense of apprehension and fear
often marked by physiological signs (as sweating, tension, and increased
pulse), by doubt concerning the reality and nature of the threat, and by
self-doubt about one's capacity to cope with it
What is a phobia?
A phobia is an exaggerated usually inexplicable and illogical fear of a
particular object, class of objects, or situation
What is panic disorder?
Panic disorder is the nervous systems flashing danger signals at
inappropriate times. Without any provocation, they feel the same emotional and
physical sensations they would if their lives were in jeopardy. The attacks
seem to come out of thin air, in places where there is nothing to fear. Panic
disorder typically begins in the late teen years or early-to-mid twenties, but
it is now known to exist in children as well.
What is Agoraphobia?
Agoraphobia (Greek for "fear of the market") is abnormal fear of
being helpless in an embarrassing or inescapable situation that is
characterized esp. by the avoidance of open or public places. People with
agoraphobia are afraid of being in public places from which they think escape
would be difficult.
But, as anyone that suffers from it knows, there's much more to anxiety than
mere words. It can have potentially crippling effects and even take control of
your life if left untreated.
