Luther Burbank and Paramahansa Yogananda
Santa Rosa, California 1924
| I had been practicing yoga
and meditation for years when one day while in a book store I
picked up a small book entitled Metaphysical
Meditations. I am not really sure
what made me buy the book but once I started reading it I
became intrigued by the author's teachings. 50 years after
it's first publication I found a copy of Autobiography
of a Yogi. Remembering his
wonderful little book I enjoyed so much I opened the cover to
this book and was very surprised to read the dedication, which
read as follows: "Dedicated to the memory
of Luther
Burbank, An American Saint." Since Luther Burbank is an
ancestor of mine I am reminded of the saying "there are no
such things as coincidences". Since then I have read
several of his books including In
the Sanctuary of the Soul, A
Guide to Effective Prayer, one of my favorites.
Recently I applied to receive lessons through the Self-Realization
Fellowship . Founded by Paramahansa Yogananda
in 1920 in an effort to bring the teachings of Kriya yoga to the
west. What I find most desirable in his teachings is that
"regardless of religious affiliations, all persons who
sincerely seek spiritual advancement are welcome to study".
I truly believe his teachings will augment my spiritual life and
help bring me closer to knowing God.
Live in this world as a guest. This is not your true
home. The deed to the house you live in may be written in your
name, but whose was it before you acquired it? And whose will
it be after you die? It is only a wayside inn, a brief halt on
the long journey to your home in God. ~Paramahansa Yogananda~
