Mother and Child

When I sketched this, I was trying to draw a girl (myself) on her father's lap. Sometimes, I would observe other girls sitting on their father's laps and would have to fight the tears because that was something I didn't have.

I sketched one already and gave it to an important father figure in my adult life, but also wanted one of my own. However, no matter what I did, I couldn't get this person to look masculine. So after several attempts, I gave up and made it a woman. It's been strongly comforting to me. I'm glad it turned out this way.
