Borderline Personality Disorder - BPD faqs

Question:

I have been diagnosed with BPD, I was hospitalized, they explained what it is but the problem is I am on social assistance and have been seen by a psychiatrist, but apparently there is no medication so therefore I cannot see one and I do not have the funds for a psychologist, I will read the books that were mentioned on this web site but again I need a therapist to help me!! I get so frustrated that I cry myself to sleep sometimes because I don’t know where to go for help. I have contacted the Victoria mental health and they said I don't meet their criteria therefore I cannot receive help. I have been medicated in the past however I believe I need to do the footwork with the assistance of a therapist, I am 32 years old and want to better my life.

Answer:

If you genuinely disagree about fitting the criteria you need to find someone there to go over the criteria and show you which ones you don't fit and why, and you need to be prepared to explain which criteria you do fit and why. Be prepared to give multiple examples of how you fit each of the criteria that relate to you.
