Here, Kellner confidently states as fact something entirely untrue, that ECT works because of changes in neurotransmitters. Whether he did so to make ECT practitioners sound as if they know more about it than they do; or to make himself sound more like a scientist; or simply to try to lend credibility to a treatment whose action is currently unknown (indicating that he lacks real confidence in what he does for a living)...only Kellner himself knows his true motives.

He states that ECT's mode of action results from neurotransmitter release, yet according to the 'bible' on ECT, Richard Abrams' Electroconvulsive Therapy (Oxford University Press):

"..no coherent general neurochemical theory of the action of ECT yet exists. äModern ECT researchers, regardless of their species of predilection, do not have any more of a clue to the relationship between brain biological events and treatment response in ECT than they did at the time of the first edition of this book ‚ which is to say, none at all."

Remember, Abrams' book is not intended for the layperson. It is intended for the ECT practitioner and researcher.

Hear Charles Kellner try to avoid admitting his ties to the ECT device manufacturers.
