"It started 10 years ago, when I had just graduated from college and started a new job. I was sitting in a business seminar in a hotel and this thing came out of the blue. I felt like I was dying."

Anxiety Disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S. with 19.1 million (13.3%) of the adult U.S. population (ages 18-54) affected.

Anxiety disorders are serious medical illnesses. These disorders fill people's lives with overwhelming anxiety and fear. It's felt that one-quarter of the general population experiences a real anxiety disorder during their lifetime and commonly, anxiety co-exists with other medical conditions, especially depression.

Effective treatments for anxiety disorders are available, and research is yielding new, improved therapies that can help most people with anxiety disorders lead productive, fulfilling lives.

If you think you have an anxiety disorder, you should seek information and treatment. At HealthyPlace.com, we believe that the more you understand about anxiety and issues like medications, the more likely you are to get the full benefit of treatment.

If you have already been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder and are in treatment, we want to help you learn as much as you can about anxiety and to offer you support in your recovery.

I had very similar symptoms; the dizziness, the fatigue, I was sooo tired all the time, sleep didn't seem to help much. I had headaches, nausea, neck and upper back pain, even the trouble swallowing, it was as if my saliva was too thick to swallow. My doctor tested me for all sorts of things and hooked me up to all sorts of machines just to tell me there was nothing wrong with me and made me feel like he thought I was making it up. Until recently, anxiety disorders were believed to decline with age. But now experts are beginning to recognize that aging and anxiety are not mutually exclusive: anxiety is as common in the old as in the young, although how and when it appears is distinctly different in older adults.
