It's felt that one-quarter of the general population experiences a real anxiety disorder during their lifetime and commonly, anxiety co-exists with other medical conditions, especially depression. Effective treatments for anxiety disorders are available, and research is yielding new, improved therapies that can help most people with anxiety disorders lead productive, fulfilling lives. I had headaches, nausea, neck and upper back pain, even the trouble swallowing, it was as if my saliva was too thick to swallow. My doctor tested me for all sorts of things and hooked me up to all sorts of machines just to tell me there was nothing wrong with me and made me feel like he thought I was making it up. adults, lags behind that of other mental conditions, such as
depression and Alzheimer's. Until recently, anxiety disorders were
believed to decline with age. But now experts are beginning to
recognize that aging and anxiety are not mutually exclusive: anxiety
is as common in the old as in the young, although how and when it
appears is distinctly different in older adults.
