Q. I just started having panic attacks about 6-8 month's ago and I am 35-years old. I have never experienced the panic attacks before and I did not know what was wrong with me until I went to the doctor's. I knew that I was under severe stress at work, but I did not know it could cause panic attacks. Do you know of anyone like me that has developed panic attacks from job-related stress? I would like to email them.
PS: Maybe you have some information that you could send me on Panic Attacks and stress related issue's. I would like to learn as much about the panic attacks as I can. I do not ever want to place myself in that situation again. : + )
A. People react to stress in different ways. Some people may develop high blood pressure, some an ulcer, migraines, etc and there are those of us who have panic attacks!
There is usually a hereditary predisposition to the attacks and either a build up of stress and/or a major life stress, including job stress, can trigger the predisposition. Also illegal drugs like 'grass', LSD and cocaine can trigger the predisposition. Once triggered, we do need to learn how to lose our fear of the attacks.
The majority of people we are in contact with have developed Panic Attacks through stress.
We don't have any 'generic' information on stress/panic attacks. It is usually more complicated in so far as it is not so much the stress of the external situation, but the way we think about it and the way we deal with the stress. This opens up quite a number of issues dealing with who we think we should be vs who we could be. This is a huge area. We are currently finalizing a correspondence course which does detail stress and self issues in great detail plus of course how to manage the attacks, fear and anxiety.
