Q. I was wondering who is most often affected with anxiety and what happened if it goes untreated.
A. The statistics for Anxiety Disorders is as follows:
Anxiety Disorders are equal opportunity disorders. They effect both men and women equally, although men are less likely to report for diagnosis. The age of onset can range from 7 years of age through to late 60's and 70's. Although, the main grouping for age of onset is early 20's through to 40's.
The socioeconomic statistics indicate that social standing is not a contributing factor. People from all walks of life, professions and education are equally effected by Anxiety Disorders.
All humans experience anxiety to some degree. It is the nature of living in society and the world. Everyday, people experience stressors of different magnitudes. It is how people deal with these stressors which can be a big factor as to whether the anxiety develops into a problem or not. Also, traumas can also play a very large part in whether the anxiety will develop into an Anxiety Disorder.
If someone experiences anxiety in an ongoing way, i.e., where they are experiencing physical, emotional, psychological symptoms on a daily basis - and they do not seek assistance with this, then the anxiety can establish an anxiety cycle and develop into an Anxiety Disorder. However, anxiety can also develop into other conditions which are stress related. Everyone are individual. If the anxiety is not dealt with appropriately, then it will find other ways of being released or dealt with.
