Scene I: Classroom - The Classroom Critters sing together.

Hamster, Fish, and Turtle: We're the classroom critters. We love you. So there's one thing you gotta do. Remember even when we're apart, When it comes to strangers be smart!

Hamster: Happy day to you boys and girls!

Fish: We are the Classroom Critters. During the week we stay at school, and on Fridays we each go home with one of the kids.

Turtle: The kids bring us back to school on Mondays, but on Saturdays and Sundays they take care of us.

Hamster: Sometimes we take care of them!

Fish: One Friday I went home with a child who loves toys.

(To audience) You all know that child. The Mommy took us to the store.

Scene II: Store

Mommy: I need to choose a card for Grandma's birthday. Please stay right here until I'm done.

A Child Who Loves Toys: (to Fish) I like to look at cards, but I love toys. Let's just sneak over to the toys for a quick look. We'll be back before Mommy evens knows we left.

Fish: Children should always stay close to their trusted adult when they go somewhere. I knew we were in for trouble. Child goes to toy section, looks at toys. Stranger approaches.

Stranger: Hello! Do you want a new toy? Quick! Choose one and I'll buy it for you. Come with me.

(Stage goes dark. Spotlight on child and Fish.) Child: I do want a new toy, but this is a stranger! I have an "Uh Oh" feeling. I feel scared. I don't know what to do. What should I do?

Fish: Uh Oh! Danger! Yell, "Back Off Stranger!" Run away quick. Don't you fall for a stranger's trick. Tell your mom, Tell your dad Tell a trusted adult when you're scared or sad.

Child: What?

Fish: Yell, "BACK OFF STRANGER!"

Child: I'm not supposed to yell inside.

Fish: It's O.K. to yell if a stranger comes close to you.

Child: O.K. "Back off Stranger." (wimpy)

Fish: Not like that. Yell like you mean it.

Child: "BACK OFF STRANGER!"

Fish: Good job!

Child: Now what?

Fish: Run!

Child: I'm not supposed to run in the store.

Fish: It's O.K. to run if a stranger comes close to you.

Child: O.K. Where should I run?

Fish: Run until you get to your trusted adult or someone who works in the store.
