Celebrate Safety Materials

1. Celebrate Safety Teacher Manual -

This manual provides a four day lesson plan for teaching pre-school through Grade 2 students how to avoid potentially abusive situations and /or how to respond to those which can not be avoided. Good, bad, uh-oh, and uncomfortable touches, different types of child abuse, trusted adults, and stranger lures are addressed through role plays, brainstorming and real. The scripts to the video below are included in this manual.

2. Celebrate Safety Puppet Video-

The Story of the Little Child introduces children to physical and sexual abuse and neglect. The film emphasizes the importance of identifying and telling trusted adults about abuse while stressing that abuse is never a child's fault. This video is only available to teachers and is to be used in conjunction with the lessons in the Teacher Manual.

Smart About Strangers teaches children about stranger lures and how to respond to them in an upbeat and empowering way. This video is also available for parents to purchase through SOC-UM to use at home.

3. Celebrate Safety Teacher Inservice Videotape - This video shows the elements of Celebrate Safety being presented by Janiece Hopper to a kindergarten class.

4. Break the Silence - Yell and Tell Teacher Manual-

This teacher's manual covers the same topics as the Celebrate Safety teacher's manual but for children in Grades 3-6. The lessons are designed to be completed in a one day seminar format preferably following the completion of a school's drug and alcohol prevention program. However, individual teachers may opt to complete the program over a number of days.

4. Break the Silence- Shapiro Productions- This 30 minute video introduces children to physical, and sexual abuse and neglect while stressing that children need to tell trusted adults about actual or potential abuse. This film shows that children can survive abuse and recover their emotional equilibrium with help from caring adults.

5. Break the Silence - Yell and Tell Teacher Inservice Tape- This video shows elements of Break the Silence- Yell and Tell being presented by Janiece Hopper to a fourth grade class.

6. The Celebrate Safety Facilitator Handbook This handbook includes the Facilitator Idea Swap Form and Teacher Program Evaluation Form. These forms are very important to SOC-UM. The facilitator is responsible for assuring their completion and return to SOC-UM. SOC-UM is very confident that our facilitators will have many wonderful ideas for program implementation to share with other educators and we look forward to hearing about them.
