"HealthyPlace.com Radio - for your peace of mind"
San Antonio, Texas - Sept. 25, 2001 -
The largest consumer mental health site on the Internet is heading for
the airwaves as HealthyPlace.com launches HealthyPlace.com
Radio on October 6, 2001.
HealthyPlace.com Radio begins with a one-hour
talk show for mental health consumers, their family members and others who care
about them. The program will air on KTSA Radio (550AM) in San Antonio, Texas,
from 7 to 8 p.m. EST, Saturdays. It will also be broadcast live on the Internet
at www.healthyplace.com and archived for later listening at no
cost on the website.
Well known San Antonio broadcaster and
nonprofit agency exec, Ron Aaron, will host the show along with psychiatrist,
Dr. Sudha Kumar.
"Our goal is to bring mental health out of
the darkness into the light," declared Charles "Hop" Fuhrmann,
Chairman and CEO of HealthyPlace.com. "We want to give people reliable
information and support and let them know they are not alone in their suffering
and that, for many, there is significant help available."
According to the National Institute of Mental
Health, one in four people suffer from a mental illness at any given time.
"They are not crazy," says Fuhrmann. "These are people like your
family members, co-workers and neighbors who suffer from illnesses like
depression, anxiety, addictions, eating disorders, and learning
disabilities."
More than 300,000 people visit HealthyPlace.com
every month. And that number is growing daily. "HealthyPlace.com
has been a true pioneer in the mental health and medical fields when
it comes to getting information out to the consumer," Fuhrmann
noted.
Fuhrmann said, "HealthyPlace.com Radio
will give people a chance to get straight answers about personal issues, talk
with leading mental health experts and hear from real people struggling with
real issues." In addition, they'll be able to call in and ask Dr. Kumar
their personal questions.
"HealthyPlace.com Radio will provide the
most up-to-date, reliable mental health news and information people can use to
help them move forward in their lives. Ron Aaron and Dr. Sudha Kumar have an
extensive background in mental health. Both also have a long history of caring
about people. I believe that will be obvious to our listeners," he
said.
Dr. Kumar earned her B.A., MPH and MD degrees
from Boston University's six-year medical program. She graduated with honors
(Magna Cum Laude) in May 1994 and was commissioned Captain in the United States
Air Force upon graduation. She trained in psychiatry at the University of Texas
Health Science Center in San Antonio. Her research projects include "A
Comparison of Depressive symptoms in physicians by gender."
Dr. Kumar served as: Civilian Staff
Psychiatrist, Wilford Hall Medical Center; Resident Psychiatrist, University of
Texas Health Science Center; Resident Anesthesiologist Wilford Hall Medical
Center, Lackland Air Force Base; Transitional Internship, Harbor-UCLA Medical
Center, Torrance, CA. Dr. Kumar currently is in private practice in San
Antonio.
