About Dr. Kristeen Spratley
Co-host of the HealthyPlace.com Radio Show

Dr. Kristeen Spratley, Psychiatrist and Co-host of the HealthyPlace.com Radio Show

I had been a classroom teacher for nine years - teaching 7th grade Life Science and high school Biology. I come from a long line of educators so, not surprisingly, education was valued highly and that, along with enjoying working with kids, led me into the teaching field. I thoroughly enjoyed interacting with students and watching them mature and grow in their knowledge and as individuals.

However, after a time, I wanted to learn something new for myself and decided to pursue medicine - a field I had entertained while in college; but, having an aunt who is a pediatrician, I was fully aware of the dedication

required to get through medical school and honestly, at 21 years old, I wasn't ready for that.

When I entered medical school, I fully expected to get into pediatrics - continuing in the path of working with children. However, during my clinical rotations, I found that I really liked the one-on-one interaction I had when helping people with mental health issues and decided to combine my interests by pursuing psychiatry with additional training in child and adolescent psychiatry.

In my practice, I feel educating people on mental health issues is a core part of my job; and I see the HealthyPlace.com Radio Show as an extension of that education focus. The ability to reach people and bring them together, opening their minds with understanding and acceptance of themselves and others, is a valuable service in promoting healing. My hope is that in doing so we can diminish the fear of the unknown, let people know that they are not alone, and provide some hope.
