Bodliy Harm (Book) | | SARAH (sarahbrecht@hotmail.com) | | This is a wonderful book. | | I feel this book is such an accurte understanding of self-injuriers. Also, their program is the best in the nation! I went their and it was the best thing that ever happened to me! I would tell anyone who self-injuriers and who is serious about getting better, that is this what you need. I saw it work for so many people, inculding my self. Please, look into it! |

The Scarred Soul (Book) | | Jennie (bitememonster@talk21.com) | | Definitely worth reading | | This is a great self help book, something that's really needed for SI. It's written very logically and with touches of humour. Good section for friends and family of self injureres too |
Cutting (Book) | | Jennie (bitememonster@talk21.com) | | Straightforward worthwhile reading. | | Personally I liked this book although I have a friend who self injures who dislikes Levenkron because he encourages therapists to begin a session by asking to see a self injurers cuts. I thought this was well written though - a straight forward and informative read. Though it does read a bit like a long recommendation of his method of therapy. Levenkron is admirable though, I feel, for all his research into SI. Worth a read. |
A Bright Red Scream (Book) | | Jennie (bitememonster@talk21.com) | | Interesting research | | This is written by a journalist and so reads like a long article. Strong has done a lot of research and it makes interesting reading, looking at modern culture, for example Johnny Depp. Includes chapters on Eating Disorders, Sexual Abuse and the SAFE program. My favourite parts of the book were when Strong quoted self injurers, particularly the first chapter and poem. |
Bodies Under Siege (Book) | | Jennie (bitememonster@talk21.com) | | Classic text book. | | This book focuses on all types of self injury - from the usual self cutting to major self harm - removal of body parts. Favazza also looks at cultural practices involving self harm. Reads like a text book but is worth a look as Favazza is a key figure in SI research. |
Cutting (Book) | | Helen (lost_sheep@kmail.com.au) | | This was the best book on self-injury I ever read. | | This book addresses in a deeper way the cognitive experiences which lie beneath self-injury. Rather than focussing explicitly on abuse, it looks at the particular kinds of emotional binds which may lead to SI. In particular, it argues that most people who self-injure are unable to communicate their negative emotions, and are often made responsible for protecting family members from their own difficulty. I found that I related strongly to what the author was describing, based on my own experiences with SI. |

Bodily Harm (Book) | | Emily Jez (ejjsafe@yahoo.com) | | The book was very insightful and helpful. It persuaded me to attend the S.A.F.E. Alternatives program the authors outline in the book. | | The book is very accurate and offers workable solutions to self-injury. After injuring for 13 years I attended the S.A.F.E. Alternatives program, which the authors outline in the book, and I have now been injury-free for one year. The program saved my life and I am very grateful to Karen Conterio and Wendy Lader for their amazing program. |

A Bright Red Scream (Book) | | Holly (hwebmania@hotmail.com) | | Too technical for the average person | | Although I found the book to be very enlightening when it comes to facts of the disorder, it seemed very clinical. I would recommend it, however, to someone who is simply looking to 'define' self-injury. |

A Bright Red Scream (Book) | | Mindy (Speedbump32@aol.com) | | EXCELLENT!!!! | | Reading this was such a relief! I know now that there are other people like me who cut not to die, but to live. There are other people who identify with the REASONS I cut. There are other people out there who feel the same things I feel. For the first time in my life, I don't feel crazy...just coping. Thank You. |
Cutting (Book) | | Leona (mimi512@mhonline.com) | | Boy, I am certainly glad my therapist does not want to see my arms every time. | | I liked this book very much and wish Dr. Levonkron was closer; not that the therapist I have is not. |

Cutting (Book) | | Leona (mimi512@mhonline.com) | | Boy, I am certainly glad my therapist does not want to see my arms every time. | | I liked this book very much and wish Dr. Levonkron was closer; not that the therapist I have is not. I would be in big trouble every time I had an appointment. I think this goes to show his clients that he is very interested in helping them to end si. |

Cutting: understanding and overcoming self mutilation (Book) | | Shannon (aumenaia@home.com) | | informational | | The book was good and there were some points that I disagreed with but there where some other really good points to it also! It's worth the reading... You could easily read it over and afternoon in the sun :) |

book (Book) | | YPerry (acelesteal11@attbi.com) | | Good reading from a clinician standpoint | | I did not necessarily dislike the book. It is geared towards the clinician rather than the self injurer. Very informative as to what psychologist/psychiatrist is supposed to try to do for the self injurer. Just not very user friendly. |
Cutting Understanding and overcoming self mutilation (Book) | | becki (scully024@peoplepc.com) | | about who cutters are and where it comes from. | | i loved this book it really told you different view points from different cutter and levekron didnt say how wrong it was to cut he also showed you that there is a way out i love this book and reconmend it to whoever needs to know more about self injury |
A Bright Red Scream (Book) | | Tina () | | Great book | | This book was a great book, but can be very triggering, and sometimes confusing when they are writing what psychiatrists or doctors talked. It's not exactly a story book on SI, more like, a bunch of stories and information. It is really good though, I'd recomend it to SI'ers, people who have friends/family who SI, or anyone, as long as you don't want Ideas on how to SI. |
Cutting: Understanding and Overcoming Self-Mutilation (Book) | | Melody Ward (Rugoinup@aol.com) | | "It was an informative book, but yet Levenkron needs to take a different approach; I would not recommend that self-injurers themselves read this book, it is better to be geared towards professionals needing background information regarding the topic. | | This book seemed to invalidate self-injurers more than anything else besides give professionals background information. Levenkron needs to treat cutters as real people struggling with a disorder, not some side freak show for all to stare upon. He seems to love that he has some knowledge of the subject and almost flaunts with pride his knowledge in the book, but he needs to remember that cutters are REAL PEOPLE, NOT a disease themselves. He does seem a little off-color in his approach too many times. His terminology also needs to be more sensitive. The term self-mutilation holds more punch than one trying to overcome the addiction of cutting feels like one is able to handle. |
(Book) | | Nicole (celticlabyrinth@bolt.com) | | The program that this book is about saved my life. This book is well worth reading. | | This book trully does tell you about self-injury. It gives you idea as to how you can stop self-injuring and ways to get over it. It doesn't just focus on the graphics like some. The program this book is about saves people lives daily. this is a fantastic book. |
Cutting (Book) | | girl (cheese_is_god@yahoo.com) | | Not worth the light of day | | I could only read a fourth of thie book (if even) before I had to put it down and say enough. He makes all SIers into razor obsessed, child abused women. The very title of the book-cutting insinuates that cutting is all that matters. His preface babbles on about how 'society fails to recognize mental health' or something of the sort. Yet by only recognizing cutting as a form of Self Injury (or as he gracefully reffers to it: self mutilation), then he is merely showing one side of SI. It is defeating the purpose. To inform society of such a broad topic he needs to speak of SI as a whole dissorder. SI is not only cutting as an Eating dissorder is not only anorexia. Borrow it from a friend or the library, pay 5 dollars for it on half.com but otherwise dont waste the money. |
Cutting by Steven Levonkron (Book) | | Jillian (Miki113_@excite.com) | | Great book for all knowledge concerning self mutilation | | I loved the book. As a cutter, it really helped my find the lauguage to use. It gave my some reasons i continued to cut. It gave me knowledge and other resources i can use instead of cutting. Levonkron knows what he is talking about. I definitely recommend this page turner book. |
a bright red scream (Book) | | soranyi (manc8396@dowling.edu) | | Self injury is a fast growing epidemic... we must stop it. | | detailed book on si |
Cut (Book) | | Melissa (Thetoe05@msn.com) | | EXCELLENT | | This book is about a girl who went into a hospital because of her cutting... and it goes through all the reasons why she's there and ect |
Crosses (Book) | | Melissa (Thetoe05@msn.com) | | Worth reading | | I like this book b.c it goes through all the feelings in the cutters head, it gives lots of detail and very true life like... I've read it 5 times !!!! |
The Scarred Soul (Book) | | Lisa (buffalo_alice_lm@yahoo.com) | | Compassionate and insightful | | The Scarred Soul is the first book I've read that does not lump together all persons who self-injure as having the same general motivations for doing so, and it is the first book that treats self-injurers as rational, intelligent human beings. The step-by-step journal guide helped me confront my feelings that made me use SIV, and to begin to decide how to overcome my habit. At times the book is simplistic and repetitive, but its simplicity makes it so accessible. I would recommend it to almost anyone who self-injures. |
Cutting (Book) | | Marie () | | Detached and oversimplified | | Levenkron should be praised for his study of self-injury as a symptom of a psychological problem and a more common behavior than once thought, but I found the book detached and not particularly compassionate, and too much emphasis was laid on poor parents and on abuse. I'm sure that much of what is written in this book is true, but I found very little to relate to my own situation. |
Bodily Harm (Book) | | Angela (aconstan1@msn.com) | | EXCELLANT | | The book is no frill honest, these people understand. I read the book and have been to their program and am here to say IT WORKS! |
Bright Red Scream (Book) | | () | | Same old crap | | Like most books on self-harming behaviors, whether cutting or eating disorders or whatever it is, this book is good for people who have never done it themselves and want to understand. It is not good for people who hurt themselves. More compassionate than other books I've read on the subject, at the same time it often sensationalizes the problem the way a journalist, like this author, would normally do. It also, like most people even in the psychology world, cannot speak of self-injury without blaming the parents, nor can it explain it in any terms besides a way of coping with abuse. Yes, about half of self-injurers have experienced some kind of abuse, but what about the other half? In short, if you want to be shocked by self-njury stories and hear a lot of Freudian explanations for it, go ahead and read the book. Otherwise, skip it. |

Cut (Book) | | Stephie (altima_the_bloody_angel@yahoo.com) | | Very accurate | | I read it in one sitting. I let a couple of friends borrow it and they both read it in one sitting too. We're all self injurers and we all really connected with it. |
cut (Book) | | Asana Lace (angellyn13up@yahoo.com) | | Not that good | | I'm sick of books that only show it as minor! Like it's not a big deal but it is becuase the "sick" people who do it belong in mental hospitals! |
cutting by levenkron (Book) | | mica (mica550@aol.com) | | excellent source of info | | best book i've seen on the topic |
(Book) | | Carol95744 () | | First book I've read that doesn't lump all SI'ers into abused mental cases! | | Finally, a book that doesn't insult the intelligent, otherwise healthy self-jurer. Many people do not know exactly why they cut; they haven't been abused, do not suffer from PTSD, etc...they simply need to explore their feelings and the bottling up of emotions! Thank you for a great eye opener. |

cutting (Book) | | berit (sugarhi247@hotmail.com) | | says everything a "cutter" feels but cant quite express | | ive read alot of books on self harm in attempt to better understand my behavior and perhaps find some help, comfort, and possible answers. this book was awesome. i gave it to the people in my life that ate keeping me in check and really want to help. even my councelor enjoyed it. i also STRONGLY recomend reading the other book he wrote on self mutilation called The Luckiest Girl in the World. its a novel but its something you can relate to, i for one couldnt put it down. but most definetally read cutting, i think everyone could benefit from it, and also, share it with people. if people really understood about "what we do" it would make everyones lives easier. the fact that people dont understand it and are kindof afraid of it makes us feel incredibly alone and abandonded even more than we already do feel. in short, read this book, you'll like it. |
Cutting Understanding and Overcoming Self Mutilation (Book) | | Holly (roxy_npink19@yahoo.com) | | very realistic a little bit gross but I'll be able to help my freind now | | I liked the book because the character was realistic and i have a better knowledge and understanding of my freind now. I see why she feels she can't stop and why I have to help her to the best of my abilities |
No More Pain! Breaking the Silence of Self-Injury (Book) | | Mike (hamdants@hotmail.com) | | Great book on Self-Injury-Someone who "Gets it!" | | The author not only has personal experience, but has "gotten in the head" of a person who self-injures. Well written and very intense. |
Women, Sex, and Addiction (Book) | | S (sjhaz63@aol.com) | | The bite of the apple... | | Opened my eyes to the truth...not unlike the garden of eden! This book should be required for every female on earth. It has changed my life. |

See My Pain (Book) | | Jennifer () | | Excellent Resource | | I am one of the few people who are comfortable treating self-injury. This book provided me with additional resources to use with these hurting children |
A Bright Red Scream (Book) | | Jackie (lookatthecacti@aol.com) | | Very good, very throrough | | I really enjoyed this book. It was very empathetic toward all kinds of self-injurers and was very accurate. It shows how deep the subject of self-injury goes and it kills the myths and misunderstandings that surround it. It's good for self-injurers and those who know them. |
